3 takeaways from the Boston Celtics’ Game 3 win over the Brooklyn Nets

CelticsBlog

Jayson Tatum had 39 points and six steals and Jaylen Brown added 23 as the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets to lead the series three games to none. Here are the takeaways:

1. Jayson Tatum is becoming must-see TV

So many people know Tatum for being an offensive force, but he is becoming a much better defender than people believe. Not only is he part of the reason that Kevin Durant is struggling, but JT also had six steals, five rebounds, and six assists in tonight’s game. Being able to put up those numbers on offense and still have the intensity on defense shows growth in the NBA’s new version of Agent 0!

2. Defense, defense, and more defense

The Brooklyn Nets were supposed to be the team that no one in the league could score enough against to beat them in a seven-game series. Kyrie Irving and Durant are great players and it was thought that they were unstoppable. Well, Coach Iwe Udoka, his coaching staff, and the players have collectively had something to say about that. Irving scored 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting and Durant only took 11 shots (6-for-11)for the game. The Celtics’ defense is doing a great job of making these two offensive threats operate in a crowd and it is paying off in a major way. Let’s hope that continues.

3. Welcome back Robert Williams

Playing in a game for the first time since mid-March, Williams played 16 minutes and had two points, two rebounds, and a block. But his presence on the floor did much more than his stat line conveys. In order to get where this team wants to go, Time Lord is a major factor in Boston getting there. He looked fresh and very mobile in his limited time on the court and if tomorrow he shows no pain or any other setback look for a bigger role as the Celtics go for the sweep in Game 4.

Speaking of Game 4, that will be on Monday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and it will be nationally televised on TNT.
