Celtics Review - Game 29

And we back, baby! I enjoyed the break from writing articles, but I have to admit, it feels nice to be back writing about the best sports team out there. And what a time to write about them, too! The Celtics are on a 5 game win streak, which is the longest in the NBA at the moment. Not only that, but we’ve been blowing opponents out of the water. Ever since the 6 point win over the Mavericks, the Celtics have won by 12 or more points in each of the 4 games after. Granted, three of those games were against subpar opponents, but the Raptors are a good basketball team. I understand they were without Pascal Siakam, but even so, it should have been a closer game than it was. I mean, on Christmas day, too? C’mon Toronto. Your better than that.

Anyways, onto yesterday’s game against the Cavs. We game out on fire. Jaylen Brown, in usual fashion, took over the first quarter. Even in the long stretch earlier this season where we sucked in the first quarter, Brown was always a light at the end of the tunnel in the early stages of games. He’s having his best season yet by far, and I think he could be making his case for the All-Star game. Then when the game moved into the second quarter, it was a tale of two men: Kevin Love and Jayson Tatum. It was almost like they physically could not miss a shot. They both ended the half with 20+ points, and for one of the first times this season, I wanted Tatum to take those stupid step-back three pointers he loves. It felt good.

As the game neared its end, the Celtics started to pull the same crap they always do, where they let the opponent back in the game and start to crumble a little bit. It was only for a few minutes, and then we put the nail in the coffin. Since this game was pretty straight forward, I just wanted to address something I think is important to note. Romeo Langford and Grant Williams. First, Romeo has been playing some big boy minutes during this win streak. Most people would just write it off as garbage time minutes if you just saw the box score, but he’s been getting real minutes in every quarter of the game. And even better than that, he looks like a solid player. Then there’s Grant Williams, who is just blossoming before our very eyes. He has one of the best defensive ratings on the team, and that’s a real accomplishment when you consider how many talented defenders we have on our team. I’m just loving all of our rookies right now, Tacko VERY much included.

Ouch Award - Kemba Walker

If I’m being honest, I didn’t even want to make an Ouch Award for this game. Kemba only made a third of his shots, but he wasn’t that bad in this one. If anything, the fact that Kemba can be slightly off his game and we can still win is an absolute victory in my eyes. There was even that game against the Pistons where Kemba only scored one point and we destroyed them. I love the fact that this team is talented enough to win when our best player struggles. It shows how much confidence everyone has in each other, and it’s immensely better than last year’s team. It just goes to show once again that Kyrie Irving is a sore on any team’s roster.

Love of my Life Award - The Jays

Oh my god, this is what I’ve been waiting for. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are playing like All-Stars, and this game proved that. Both of them dropped 30+ and looked like legitimate superstars in yesterday’s performance. Yes, I know it was just the Cavaliers, but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that they played out of their minds. There’s not much else I have to say on the subject aside from the fact that both should easily be in consideration for the All-Star game. It’s just a matter of which one will get the spot, or if both of them will get a spot. If Brown keeps up the hot streak that he’s been on, then I don’t see how he could be snubbed. I guess only time will tell.
