UFC Fighter Colby Covington Calls LeBron James a “Spineless Coward”

NBA

UFC Fighter Colby Covington was recently recorded in an interview calling out LeBron James, the star forward for the Los Angeles Lakers. He went on record calling him, and the NBA as a whole, a bunch of “spineless cowards” who are speaking out against police brutality.

He began his speech by dedicating his fight to first responders and thanked them for keeping the public safe. However, his demeanor quickly changed as he turned on the NBA and basketball community. Covington let everyone know how he is “sick of these woke athletes”.

The whole basketball world came to James’ defense fast. Players Kevin Durant and Austin Rivers, as well as musical artist Famous Los, took to Instagram to question the comments made by the UFC Fighter.

The video definitely comes off brash and out of nowhere, but it’s no surprise that there are athletes who reside on opposing sides of the political spectrum. Covington is allowed to express his opinions just as much as James is. The new question lies in whether or not athletes should continue calling each other out in this manner.

It is a dangerous slope to slide down once members of the sports world begin publicly ridiculing each other. This event makes me think - is this going to start a chain reaction? Who calls out who next? It may just be a matter of time.
